Reading Six Chime Replica

The famous Reading Six Chime Passenger Locomotive Whistle is Without any doubt, the best we manufacture. Two years in the making, all parts are formed by the very expensive and precise investment casting process. The three pieces subject most to corrosion, (center shaft, valve, and pull lever), are cast in stainless steel. Tested on our boiler beside an original, the two are virtually indistinguishable in sound. The detail of this whistle is incredible. The quality of the castings immediately stand out when compared to the original. Very few Reading six chime whistles remain from this great railroad, and we extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Charles Blumle for allowing us to replicate his original whistle.

Southern Railway Long Bell Replica

This whistle is a remarkable full scale reproduction of a Southern Railway Long Bell three chime. These whistles were produced in the Southern Railway foundry in Lenoir City, Tennessee. They were used on passenger class 4-6-2 Pacifics and also 4-4-0 and 2-8-2 engines. These top-lever actuated whistles have very deep chambers that produce a deep rich sound which can be heard for miles on a still day. Construction is 99% red brass by weight. The only concession to materials substitution is the 3/4" inner shaft which houses the valve lever. This is constructed of stainless steel with bronze bushings to avoid rusting. No detail has been overlooked to insure that this copy is the same fine quality as the original. The casting technique used on these whistles is in fact a superior process leaving fewer casting holes and flaws than found on many originals.
